ACFT Training

To prepare for the ACFT 2023, you must start training in anaerobic endurance, strength, power, speed, and agility.

First, we want to discuss the six fundamental movements soldiers must learn to prepare for the ACFT.

They are the squat, the deadlift, the bench press, the overhead press, and the pull-up, as well as a rotational core exercise.

Every soldier across the force has physical demands placed on them, and we have too many muscular and skeletal injuries in the army, with 10 % of our force that can’t do their job.

And so we have got to have a change in culture that better prepare soldiers for the demands of soldiering.

The ACFT measures all ten components of fitness, whereas the APFT only measures two, muscular endurance and aerobic endurance. Training all ten components of fitness helps reduce injuries.

Some of the events are very challenging, and I will only run out and start trying them after training for them.

With each new exercise routine comes a greater risk of injury. One of our biggest fears is that soldiers, especially those not foundationally trained, will immediately go out and start pushing sleds or hooking a 10-pound ball without prior preparation.

We will train in physical fitness over a more extended period, more sustained period, improving our fitness levels and ACFT scores, and allowing a higher percentage of soldiers to pass the new ACFT 2023, which will result in our ability to perform our combat mission better.
