Army Soldiers Creed 2024

What is the soldiers creed?

The soldiers creed is a statement that outlines the fundamental beliefs and values of soldiers in the United States Army. Members of the army recite the soldiers’ creed during their basic training and other important occasions in their careers.

Who wrote the soldier’s creed?

It was written by Task Force Soldier’s Warrior Ethos Team members.

Below are the words of the soldier’s creed.

I am an American Soldier.

I am a warrior and a member of a team.

I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.

I will never accept defeat.

I will never quit.

I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.

I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.

I am an expert and I am a professional.

I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy, the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.

I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.

I am an American Soldier.

Soldiers Creed

The Soldier’s Creed has numerous advantages for individual soldiers and the Army.

  • The soldiers creed reminds soldiers of the noble purpose and dignity of serving in the United States Army; this helps soldiers develop a sense of pride and belonging.
  • The soldiers creed stresses teamwork and the importance of being a team member and serving the American people.
  • The creed is founded on Army values, including loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage; reciting the creed reminds the soldier of the significance of these values within the Army.
  • It also emphasizes the importance of being disciplined, mentally and physically demanding, and adept at warrior tasks and drills; this can help soldiers develop discipline and readiness.
  • In the soldier’s creed are statements about never accepting defeat, never quitting, and never abandoning a fallen comrade, which motivates and inspires.
  • Like the noncommissioned officer’s creed, the soldier’s creed is essential for boosting morale, fostering teamwork, and reinforcing Army values.

Background on the Soldiers Creed

Before we get into the actual soldier’s creed, let me tell you just a little about it. The current version of the Soldiers Creed was written in 2003 by the Task Force Soldier’s Warrior Ethos team. Now, the word “ethos” is a separate thing that soldiers carry around on a little card, sometimes on their dog tags, or just something they should memorize. But also, along with that, comes the soldier’s creed.

The Current Version of the Soldiers Creed

There was another version of the army soldiers’ creed that existed before 2003 that’s a little bit longer and doesn’t have the line breaks that the current version has to make it smoother when you’re trying to recite it. The army wants a soldier to recite the creed, sometimes just out of the blue.

The Importance of Knowing the Soldier’s Creed

So typically, soldiers should memorize it. But, again, it’s not a requirement, but some units may be stricter on it than others. But a soldier should want to know if they will go on the promotion board or the soldier of the month board.
