Lifting From The Ground

This is

LIFTING FROM THE GROUND

Power the lift with the legs, not the back (Figure C-12). Then continue to bend at the hips and knees to lower the body. To protect the back, keep the hips set and the abdominal muscles tight throughout the lift. Keep the load close to the body from start to finish. When Soldiers must turn under load, do so by pivoting the feet rather than twisting the trunk.
